A Heartfelt Thank You
The strength of a community is largely built by those who protect its health.
You provide care and solutions when people need it the most. It’s a noble and necessary pursuit.
Unfortunately, medical professionals are also at higher risk for certain health outcomes, especially related to well-being, due to occupational demands.
Your jobs often involve odd hours, long shifts, high-stress, high-stakes obligations with little time and bandwidth left to think about yourselves and your own wellness.
You have high expectations of yourself. You pride yourself on diligence and achievement. Many of you muscled through brutal tests and residencies and years of very hard work. All extremely impressive. But this kind of perfectionism can also unnecessarily add to your stress and make you forget that at the end of the day, you're perfectly human.
That we don’t take better care of our medical professionals even as they care for us is one of the greater understated tragedies of our time.
Granted, much of the stress is due to structural problems within the healthcare system. But you are not helpless. There absolutely are changes to undergo on a more individual level that offers relief in the meanwhile.
It’s not weakness, but rather a strength, to understand that you may benefit immensely from coaching in order to guide your physical and emotional—health in a brighter direction.
I meet all my clients with uncompromising compassion. Life can be hard, change can be hard. My goal is not only to take you from where you are to where you’d like to be, but offer up ways to handle yourself with greater compassion and forgiveness.
