Black women deserve greater health, healing, and the right to occupy the center stage in their own lives.

Despite the enormous contributions to culture, innovation, and this nation’s prosperity, black women are more likely than any demographic to experience chronic, preventable lifestyle diseases that sap our energy, sense of comfort, and ability to experience our lives to the fullest.

Hi, my name is Jay.

I’m an American College of Sports Medicine Certified Personal Trainer, ACSM Certified Health and Wellness Coach and a Precision Nutrition Certified Nutrition Coach.

Several years of working in the health and fitness industry has taught me a few things: The first is how much I enjoy the process of helping others transform their lives through movement, nutrition, prioritizing self-care, and intentional scheduling to move towards a life of greater well-being.

The second is how neglected black women are in these health spaces supposedly dedicated to the well-being of all. My certifications, course, and textbooks over the years rarely if ever examined the pressing barriers and considerations specific to black women and success in this area. It’s through incorporating additional research and community experience that I fully realized the hidden emotional, mental, and systemic barriers keeping us from the satisfaction we seek.

I believe in a holistic model of health. We need to cultivate lifestyle changes that include more than just diet and exercise (although those are important too!) in order to truly feel our best daily. Building the skills to make small, but consistent and meaningful changes to how we live is key.

Of course, much of our health as a demographic nationally lags due to systemic factors that we must fight, resist, and legislate away.

But there’s a lot within our personal power to improve our own quality of health that many women fail to fully access before quitting.

And there’s nothing worth fighting for more than your own health— our truest homes are our bodies.

The decisions you make, the people you intentionally surround yourself with, and the skills you learn and practice daily are either propelling you forward in the direction of your goals, or dragging you further from them.
